OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) is used in the early diagnosis of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, macular hole, epiretinal membranes, and venous occlusions, among others. The eye is analyzed vertically, unlike other examinations that are viewed from the front, allowing for the visualization of different parts of the eye, including the cornea, macula, retina, and optic nerve. OCT enables the ophthalmologist to distinguish the different layers of the retina, and map and measure their thickness. It also provides a view of the anterior part of the eye, which is useful in diagnosing corneal diseases and as support in cataracts, astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia surgeries. At Bogota Laser Ocular Surgery Center, we use Optovue OCT technology.

Recommendations: Corneal OCT and anterior chamber angle measurement do not require dilation. For macular and optic nerve OCT, please take precautions for your travel arrangements, ensure you have assistance, or do not drive. This examination requires reading, and the results will be available within 3 to 5 business days after the examination.
