Cataract extraction by phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification is the technique to operate cataracts. This involves making a very small incision to remove the natural lens from the eye and replace it with a new lens. Generally, its recovery is usually very quick and effective, since it does not require stitches.

PROCEDURE

Local anesthesia is applied.
The anterior capsule of the lens is opened and with the phacoemulsifying instrument, which is a small probe, fluid is poured into the eye while the lens is broken into small fragments.
Corneal cuts are made with the femtosecond laser.
The lens is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) to correct the patient's vision.
