Cataract extraction by phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification is the technique to operate cataracts. This involves making a very small incision to remove the natural lens from the eye and replace it with a new lens. Generally, its recovery is usually very quick and effective, since it does not require stitches.

PROCEDURE

  • Local anesthesia is applied.
  • The anterior capsule of the lens is opened and with the phacoemulsifying instrument, which is a small probe, fluid is poured into the eye while the lens is broken into small fragments.
  • Corneal cuts are made with the femtosecond laser.
  • The lens is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL) to correct the patient's vision.
